On the Job – Fashion Designer
I decided to take the plunge and have a go at something
Carlo Salanitri
Career: Fashion designer/director of Ivory Skies
Age: 28
Lives: Highbury
From: Melbourne, Australia
How did you get into your line of work?
I decided to take the plunge and have a go at something that has always been a dream. I was working as a brand manager of a luxury fashion brand from Switzerland when I got here, and due to being inspired by the fashion culture in this city and the Aussie fashion culture with which I grew up, I decided to put together my own designer T-shirt label, Ivory Skies.
What do you do day-to-day?
I mainly focus on getting the brand out there, from blogs, to advertising, and of course, I take care of orders, customer service and all of that stuff.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The most rewarding aspect is when people choose to accept the brand in any way, shape or form, whether they join us on social networks, or give us their thoughts and encouragement. I must admit when someone chooses to buy the T-shirts online or via wholesale it is a massive buzz and so appreciated.
What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
Definitely driving people to the website, ivoryskies.net. It is something that needs constant attention.
